Hiya Mekieder, Dooahhh here...

I wrote a book a couple years ago and remember going through what you are now trying to get a author 's rep or publisher to take on your work. It's not easy and you've got to make your quiry letter exactally what the industry wants and 100% flawless especially when solisiting publishers. One mistake and it's in the garbage.

Due to the nature of my 156,000 word book, author reps like it alright but didn't think the publishers would be interested in it's content at the moment. Publishers look for new books that have topics that are selling and have the interest of the world at the moment. They need to sell your book and if it's not of interest at the moment, they will pass you by no matter how good your literary abilities are. My book was basically about how organized religion is in the process of annihilating humanity and coming from an unknown author, the reps were hesitant to take it on thinking the publishers wouldn't be interested.

Sooooo. I got hold of a publisher called Author House and published the damn thing myself. It cost 11 hundred dollars but these days you can knock off 4 or 5 hundred and have your book in hand in a couple weeks. Going this route has many good attributes. One is that you own your book you can always sell if you find an interested publisher down the road. Two, instead of a poultry dollar or so royalties per book, I get 8.37 cents each provided I direct potential buyers to the Author House book store. That's a lot of bread if your book is even half successful. No matter what you do you need to get published before your efforts become ligitimate in the world of book writing.

You can build you own book web site easily like I did and direct potential buyers there.

Whether you, or a publisher sells your book it all comes down to marketing. I don't care if you giving away 10 pound bags of pure gold for a dollar a bag. If no one is directed to your product, you won't sell one. Think marketing marketing marketing. That's the key to your dream.

I'm writing you here because I read that you are interested in sci-fi for one, and you have a guitar by your side in your picture. it just so happens I'm writing a sci-fi book as well and I've been playing guitar all my life along with drums and keyboard. that's where the "Dooahhh" nickname came from. I played in a 50's rock and roll band for 15 years abot 150 years ago. Those were the best days of my life. I'm 69 now but if I was your age, I'd be looking to get your phone number. it seems we have a lot in common.
